Minister Dong Jun told Secretary Hegseth that any schemes aimed at using military force to assist independence or using Taiwan to contain China "will be thwarted.". Hegseth made clear that the United States does not intend to do such things, while at the same time emphasizing that the U.S. has significant interests in the Indo-Pacific and will "resolutely protect" those interests.
